City Council Regular Meeting Held Thursday
The council voted to approve support for a 4-H archery range, discussed a car rental business, and will be taking bids on municipal power. The council will also work with Good Life Associates to get design concepts for a wellness center at another location after attempts to use the old ShopKo building failed.

Former Cherry County GOP Chair Kathy Morris stated that the resignation stemmed from “badgering” by the Tony Tangwall campaign for Nebraska’s 43rd District Senate seat. Tangwall denies the claim. Vice-Chair Miles stated that he had never felt bullied by the campaign.

The new “Type 3” Ambulance will be on a 2024 Ford F-450 and is scheduled to arrive in early October. This ambulance will replace the 1999 Ford E-Series shown.

The bridge over the Minnechaduza Creek on Nebraska Highway 12 3 miles east of Valentine. The closure will be in place until May 23, 2025.
CenturyLink Fiber Optic Cable Cut, Disrupting Service in the Area
Crews have been dispatched to repair the cut line near Oakdale. Disruptions include phone lines to the Cherry County Sheriff’s Office. You may contact them through the Valentine Police Department phone at 376-3055. Emergency response is still operational via 911. The outage is hoped to be fixed by mid- to late-afternoon on Wednesday.
Platte Institute’s Jim Vokal Talks About Property Taxes on Comment Program
Vokal stated that the Platte Institute applauds the governor and legislature any time taxes can be lowered. LB 34 will lower property taxes in Nebraska by about 3 percent.

Rollover Accident Reported on North Kilgore Road
The rollover reportedly occurred on North Kilgore Road at the Rocky Road intersection at the curve and only involved the driver of the vehicle whose condition was not reported.

A new National Park Service report shows that 80,000 visitors to Niobrara National Scenic River in 2023 spent $8 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 111 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $9.4 million.
