At the Tuesday morning portion of the Cherry County Commissioners, the roads department discussed the state highway detour east of Valentine.  It was brought to the attention of the commissioners that many travelers on the detour were driving too fast for conditions, including washboard surface and very dusty conditions.  It was stressed that travelers need to adhere to the posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour in these areas, and that this was considered a temporary state highway, meaning that there may be additional presence of NSP troopers in the area.

The public hearing was held at 11 concerning the tax request.  While property tax values have gone up roughly 17%, the actual tax request would be down 2.4%.  All commissioners expressed similar sentiments that this was something to be proud of, considering a half million dollar levy that is still being paid off from the historic flooding experienced in 2019.

Representatives from the Cherry County Visitor Promotion Board were present along with reps from MPCC and Wilkins Architecture to address the proposed design concepts to the commissioners.  The proposed design will allow maximum occupancy of 500 people and includes a large convention room which may be sub-divided into 4 smaller breakout rooms.

The price tag on the building is climbing slightly.  Several representatives stated that this may not be a $4 million dollar project, and to prepare for the final bill to come in slightly higher.  The commissioners all expressed a general consensus that the initial design proposals looked good, and complimented the existing MPCC campus building well.
