RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The Rosebud Sioux Tribe is investing in a greener future.

Last week, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the tribe was selected to receive a Climate Pollution Reduction grant of more than $7.8 million.

The grant is part of the Biden Administration’s Investing in America agenda.

The tribe will apply the funds to install electric vehicle charging stations, purchase and use an electric garbage truck, and buy electric buses for transit routes.

The EPA chose 34 applications presented by 33 tribal recipients to create solutions for reducing air pollution, attacking the climate crisis and speeding up the transition to clean energy.

The grant funds will also be used to create jobs and promote workforce development in the Rosebud communities.
