The Cherry County Commissioners were in a special meeting on Thursday to interview for the county assessor’s position which was vacated by Jackie Moreland’s resignation.
The meeting concluded with the appointment of Melissa Bancroft, of Valentine as Cherry County Assessor.
Bancroft will need to obtain the required certification, which will need to obtained within 150 days.
Because this is an elected position, Bancroft’s appointment will apply for two years until the position comes up in a natural election cycle.
Bancroft is expected to begin working in the assessor’s office next week.
