The Cherry County GOP met this past Sunday to elect a new chairman to replace Catherine Morris who resigned. There apparently was no wide spread invitations to members at large of the Republicans in Cherry County to attend the most recent meeting. After consideration the other three officers, Craig Miles, vice chairman, Joy Miles, secretary, and Shirley Schuman treasurer chose to keep their offices. Those three had earlier verbally announced that they were resigning their positions as well.
The new chair of the county GOP is Jim Lambley of Gordon. Lambley is a Cherry County resident living near the Sheridan and Cherry County Line. A new chairman also had to be elected for the Central Committee. That will be Craig Miles,
Louie Day was elected vice chairman and Joy Miles, secretary.
In what looks like a reversal of policy, the Cherry County GOP also voted almost immediately to endorse Tony Tangwall for legislature. Tangwall lost in the primary election to opponent Tanya Storer by almost 18 points and reportedly only
carried one County in the district. He did not carry his home
County of Dawes County. The Cherry County GOP in the past had a policy that they did not endorse a Republican Candidate against another Republican candidate.
According to Kathy Morris Tony Tangwall testified at state level GOP, in August, against her as Cherry County GOP Chairman because “she stood in his way to a county endorsement”. Tangwall is a Chair Rep at the State GOP Central Committee.
A local resident told KVSH Radio “it feels like the Cherry County GOP has become a private club with a personal agenda”.
At its Sunday meeting, committee members also discussed potential amendments to the constitution and bylaws and set its next Central Committee meeting for 4:00 p.m. on Oct. 20, 2024 at the Sale Barn Cafe.
