The 37th annual Old Settler’s Reunion Celebration will be held this Saturday at Sparks. According to some documents in 1883 and 1884, the Sparks neighborhood was settled by people coming from Eastern States. In 1887 they started to build a community building where church and social affairs could be held. At one time it was called The Harvest Home, to celebrate abundant crops and gardens that year. About the time of World War One, it was decided to drop one day of celebration and set the last Saturday in August as the official date. Everyone is invited to participate in Old Settlers with the small sports including foot races, egg toss, and more beginning at 10am followed immediately by the Bowery program. The amateur rodeo will begin at noon with youth and adult events. The day wraps up with team sorting event and horse races.
