The Heart City Theater group closed Tuesday on the purchase of a building on Main Street to renovate into community run theater. The actual location is the exact location of the original Jewell Theater at 235 North Main Street.

Mike Young owned the building which has been home to Outback Screen Printing and Fresh Fire Ministries. Demo of unnecessary parts of the building will issue in a return to the sloped floor for theater style seating.

Mark Hagge, Shelly Henderson and Jerilyn Colburn appeared on the KVSH Comment program, representing the Heart City Theater group, which is now a 501c3 for tax deductible donations. Acknowledging that a lot of things needs to be fall into place, the goal would be to open in spring or summer of 2025. The group started working on this project almost one year ago this fall.

They will ask the community to help in the demolition process and they will need more funding to complete the 500,000 to 600,000 dollar project. A grant has been submitted to help out with fund raising.

It is planned to offer movies and a small stage area for community events.
