A Valentine woman has earned a $1,000 dual excellence scholarship for her efforts both in the classroom and in the arena.

Sheyenne Hammond, was presented with the scholarship during the sixth annual Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team Banquet on Saturday at the Holiday Inn Express in North Platte.

The Wranglers, the team’s official booster committee, awards the scholarship every year to a rodeo team member who has demonstrated tremendous success in schoolwork and rodeo competitions simultaneously.

Hammond is currently sitting fourth in the Great Plains Region barrel racing standings. She is 12th in the breakaway roping. Sheyenne has also maintained at least a 3.0 GPA.
