The Valentine Police Department will be participating in a Regional “420” Enforcement Campaign involving Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Missouri and Arkansas on April 20-22, 2018. This selective is designed to deter impaired driving by identifying and arresting drivers who are under the influence of marijuana, alcohol, or other intoxicating substances. A Journal of the American Medical Association study shows a 12 percent increase in the relative risk of fatal crashes after 4:20 pm on April 20th compared to identical times on different days. Why 420? April 20 has become an international counterculture holiday, where people gather to celebrate and consume cannabis. Scary Fact: 20% of weekend drivers tested positive for drugs at nighttime in a 2013-2014 National Roadside Survey conducted by the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration.
