The Kilgore Fire Department was called out to the Bill Schmidt place south of Nenzel early Saturday morning for a barn fire. The call came in at about 1:30 am CT. Due to the late spring blizzard, near impassable road conditions hindered the response. According to Kilgore Fire Chief Todd Rothleutner, the department was unable to get fire rigs to the scene. They did manage to get a couple firemen on scene on a tractor, but by the times the crews arrived, the cattle barn was a total loss.
