Nebraska and South Dakota authorities participated in a search and rescue mission early Monday morning in Todd County SD and the surrounding areas. The Valentine Volunteer Fire Department was called about 7am to report to the fire hall where further details would be given.
About 9:25 Monday morning the search crews were told they could return to their headquarters. It was reported that a downed plane was located east of Saint Francis in Todd County. A Lakeview area father and son, 39 year old Clint Vanderwey and 16 year old Jed Vanderwey, were both pronounced dead at the scene according to Todd County Sheriff’s office. The crash of the Cessna 140 plane is under investigation.
Valentine Community School sent a message to parents of students that counselors were available on Monday morning.
Funeral services are planned for Monday September 16th at 2pm at the United Methodist Church in Valentine. Holmes funeral home will be handling the arrangements.
