Today, the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced that culvert work on N-97, near the Brownlee Road intersection, will begin on September 9, weather permitting. This work is necessary to alleviate flooding which has kept N-97 closed since April 2019.

The contractor, Perrett Construction, Ltd. from Valentine, Nebraska, will begin mobilizing equipment and material to the site on September 9 and will begin excavating to place the culvert under the highway a few days later. Once the excavation work begins, N-97 will be closed to all vehicular traffic at the work site until the culvert has been installed. The work site is located on N-97 near Reference Post 104.20, approximately 37 miles south of Valentine.

The closure for the culvert work is expected to last approximately two weeks. Motorists who have been using private property to go around the flooded area of N-97 will need to use an alternate route during this time.

The entire project is expected to be completed in October 2019. Motorists are reminded to use caution when driving through construction zones and selected alternate routes, and to wear
seatbelts. To stay up to date on the latest closure information for this project please call 511 or visit www.511.nebraska.gov.
