The regular meeting of the Valentine City Council was held Thursday, July 11, 2019. Most of the discussion centered around the proposed plans by the state and the city for the upcoming Main Street renovation that is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2021. Most of the final plan was approved, which will include a new design for South Main that includes angle parking and increase street lights so that all of Main Street from Highway 20 to Fourth Street is more appealing to travelers as South Main will coincide with North Main. This plan will also add more parking spaces in the South Main area.
The council also approved the purchase of a new pumper truck for the Valentine Volunteer Fire Department. Their newest pumper truck will be twenty years old and the updated model is needed.
A cost of living salary increase was also approved of 1.4% for non-union employees.
