Water remains a problem in the area for motorists traveling. Currently Highway 83 has several inches of water over the road by the Pony Lake area, approximately 30 miles south of Valentine. The highway remains open as of this time, but motorist should exercise extreme caution. Check Safe Travel for the latest updates: https://hb.511.nebraska.gov/
Governor Pete Ricketts has been contacted for possible emergency pumping to clear the roadway of water. Senator Tom Brewer is expected to visit the area to asses the water causing closure on Highway 97 south of Merritt this week.
