Citizens interested in learning the latest information with the Valentine Main Street construction preparations are welcome to attend a meeting on April 1st at 6pm at Mid Plains College in Valentine. Committees will report on vegetation, signage, sidewalk paving, lighting and artwork. The Nebraska Department of Transportation will have an update on the DOT planning process as well.

A group of core volunteers have met several times to discuss design issues on Main Street. The Department of Transportation intends to let bids next year on the project, with construction to be done in 2021 and 2022. This is an opportunity for the community to have input on what Main Street will look like for the next 50 years and beyond. Traffic will be maintained on Main Street as much as possible during the construction.

Last fall a three day workshop was held in Valentine to discuss the possibilities with Main Street. The workshop was funded through a National Endowment for the Arts stipend. About one dozen citizens expressed interest in working on this project and that committees has grown a title since last October. There was also a community survey taken directed at Main Street with over 200 responses from the public. This information will be used in helping design a new look for Main Street in Valentine.
