Halloween festivities ended early last night at the Cherry County Ag Society’s annual Haunted House. According to reports to KVSH radio, at about 10:30 last night, approximately $3,000 was stolen from the ticket sales booth at the event. According to a witness, one of the individuals grabbed the money box from right in front of one of the ticket sales people and ran to a waiting car, then sped away. This theft was apparently well planned out in advance.
Police were notified and Valentine Police officers pursued the suspect vehicle to the South Dakota state line nine miles north of Valentine.
The Haunted House has been held the past few years to help raise funds to build new restrooms and shower facilities at the fairgrounds. The $3,000 taken was the total receipts for the final night of the community event.
