Valentine citizens have the opportunity to help design a new Main Street to fit the needs of the community. In 2021 and 2022, the State Department of Transportation plans to redo Main Street from highway twenty to the Minnechaduza bridge north of town.

Next week, citizens are invited to participate in a workshop to discuss design options and strategies for businesses to survive the construction phase. Residents are invited Monday evening at 6pm to learn more about the project and the community’s role in creating a vision.

The workshop will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday with various work sessions going on through the day and an update for citizens at 6pm. After working during the day on Wednesday, there will be a final presentation on Wednesday evening at 6pm to look at the potential design and plan for the next steps. Local partners will work with Department of Transportation officials to learn more about the construction process.

All the events will take place at 272 North Main street, the former Country Pride location. The public is welcome to attend all of the workshop sessions and offer input during the process.

The workshop is funded by several partners including; Citizens Institute on Rural Design, National Endowment for the Arts, University of Nebraska and Valentine Economic Development. For more information contact Mike burge at 402 376 6842.
