Beginning in September 2018, NPPD will be reconfiguring the 115 kV transmission substation that serves Valentine and the surrounding area to a ring bus scheme to improve operational flexibility and reliability. During construction, the City of Valentine will be served by a temporary mobile substation. In order to switch to the mobile substation, NPPD has scheduled a 15 to 30 minute outage which will affect the entire town on September 21, 2018 at approximately 1:00 p.m. CT.
In the weeks following, the City of Valentine will begin an electric system project to convert the lines on an
outdated distribution voltage to the same voltage as the rest of the system. This will allow us to permanently retire one of our three substations and improve the performance and reliability of the system. Small scale short outages will be required to perform the conversion. The contractors will attempt to contact customers door to door when they will experience an outage.
