The North Central RC&D held their 2nd electronics and first household hazardous waste collection in O’Neill.

4,080 lbs of electronics were collected and 9,033 lbs of household hazardous waste. In total, over 6.5 tons of waste was diverted from the local landfill. The electronics will be recycled and the household hazard waste will be disposed of properly. Lynn Sobotka, member of the RC&D handled the electronics collection and transport to Grand Island. Red Willow County Hazardous Waste handled the household hazardous waste. Sixteen communities were represented during the course of the collection.

The household hazardous waste was made possible by the communities of O’Neill and Atkinson, North Central and Northeast RC&D’s and the Nebraska Environmental Trust.

Springview, Ainsworth and Valentine are next on the calendar with a second electronics collection planned for June 1. Springview’s collection will be from 9 to 11, in Ainsworth 12:30 to 2:30 and Valentine will wrap up the day, 4:00 to 6:30. More details will be made available soon.
