A head-on collision sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries Friday afternoon.
It happened near mile marker 135 on Highway 83 in Thomas County, north of the Dismal River.
Nebraska State Patrol said a northbound Ford F-150 tried passing a semi tractor trailer, and collided with a southbound Toyota RAV4.
NSP said roads were covered with snow and ice, and visibility was poor due to blowing snow from the semi.
Officials said a Nebraska Department of Roads snow plow driver witnessed the crash.
NSP said seat belts were in use.
