On Independence Day approximately 50 citizens met to “read and ring” celebrating 249 years of living in a free republic. Miss Poppy Laramie Foster and sister Little Miss Poppy in Waiting Isa Foster opened the program with the Pledge. Nine adults, of all ages, read the Declaration of Independence. The youngest folk rang the bell to celebrate the first thirteen colonies, plus Nebraska, South Dakota, and Texas. Every family rang the Badger Bell to honor and remember veterans that they care about. The annual program concluded with a prayer and the 18th century song America, beautifully sung by Bethany Springer. Fun stuff: All folk present were given tray favors to take home. All the bell ringers wore historically correct hats. All the readers wore traditional tricorn hats while presenting, which they were able to keep. Very grateful to all on site. Thankful for 100% participation. Very thankful for those who helped organize folk, carry all the equipment, and Mr. Cronin and Mr. Beebout who made sure the bell was available and opened the gate. Thank you to Chesterman Coca~Cola for the extra special tray favors.
