Valentine Economic Development Director Mark Hagge appeared on the KVSH Comment Program to update our listeners on several projects that are underway.

Demo work has basically been completed for the theater project on Main Street.  They uncovered a large arching window in the North wall of the building which seems to be a mystery as to its purpose. The latest plan for the theater would include about 96 seats with room for additional seating if necessary.  The stage area will be 12 to 15 feet deep and 20 feet wide.  They still need to raise about $200,000 to complete the project.

On the topic of housing, Mr. Hagge reported they currently have two of the three houses built with grant funds up for sale.  They also used $100,000 for infrastructure upgrades on the Darnell property in West Valentine to make room for the potential 10 single family homes.

The Valentine Economic Development program continues to offer façade grants to businesses for renovation of store fronts including, awnings, windows, paint and more.

The designation as a Creative District has benefited the community with $100,000 to the theater project and support for the Main Steet Art Walk. This Sunday at 4pm, Olde Mill will host Nebraska Public Media featuring various local talent on the program.
