The Cherry County 4-H Cupcake War and Special Foods Contest was held June
3, 2025. Youth ages 5-18 participated in cupcake decorating, complete
with a creatively designed tablescape. A menu/table setting class option
was available for participants not wishing to bake/cook. Special Foods
contestants were required to cook a recipe item in front of the judge with
a maximum time allowance of 90 minutes. They also had to design a menu
and a table setting and they plated their recipe. In addition,
contestants in Special Foods were required to complete a personal MyPlate
assessment and answer basic nutrition questions in an interview with the
judge.
If youth are 11 years old or older, and have competed at least three
years, they are required to compete in the “advanced” level with a
challenge ingredient. This year’s advanced ingredient was bread.
