This is National EMS week. President Ford established the official observation in 1974.
Kit Russell and Duane Lamb from the Cherry County Hospital Ambulance crew appeared on the KVSH Comment program to discuss the local emergency services. Lamb serves as a paramedic and president of the association. Kit Russell is one of the primary drivers for the ambulance services. The Cherry County Hospital Ambulance answers an average of at least one call per day and sometimes multiple calls including accidents, fires and patient transport.
There are currently 24 members of the association with three more in training at this time. They cover 6,000 square miles and assist Rosebud Ambulance at times.
Mr. Lamb stated that they can always use more help, whether its drivers or EMT’s. He encouraged everyone to learn CPR that can be vital in saving a life before emergency crews arrive. Mid Plain Community College in Valentine offers these classes several times per year.
They will have a social event this evening(Mon) at the Vets Club to honor past and current members of emergency services in this area. The public is welcome to attend from 6 to 8pm.
