With severe thunderstorms moving through the KVSH area last night, the Valentine Volunteer Fire Department responded to the report of a couple small fires south on highway 97 in the Gordon Creek area on the south side of the river.  A combination of rains and a quick response by firemen led to the fires being extinguished in just a short amount of time.  Valentine Fire Chief Terry Engels stated that firemen were on scene for about a half hour before returning to the fire hall.
