In about seven hours on Wednesday, area residents dropped off over 200 tons of tires in the Tire Amnesty event in Valentine. Because of the success of the first day, no tires were accepted on Thursday. The event was open to the entire six county RC&D area and people brought tires from Holt County and Southwest Cherry County.

All tires brought to the event will be recycled by Champlin Tire Recycling, Concordia, Kansas. They process, manufacture, and market products derived from scrap tires such as park benches, picnic tables, silage covers, and feed bunks. If salvageable, tire casings are repaired and retreaded for resale. Champlin is expected to start removing the tires next week.

The North Central RC&D would like to thank all the residents who brought tires to the event along with The City of Valentine and the Middle Niobrara NRD for their cooperation in this event.
