Some severe storms hit parts of the KVSH area on Sunday evening. The first storms were reported in the Ashby area where it was reported to KVSH that a rural home was destroyed, a train derailed and numerous powerlines were downed by what was believed to be tornado activity. An area west of Valentine had power knocked out about midnight and KBR crews had that restored around 5AM. No injuries have been reported.
As the storms moved Northeast and passed through the Merritt Reservoir area, Valentine and surrounding area braced for possible severe impact. the storm cell seemed to move West of Valentine with not as much impact as thought. There was a 59mph wind reported in the Northeast part of Valentine. Valentine only measured about a quarter inch of rainfall and some small hail. St. Francis reported damage to trees and buildings and 1.85 inches of rain. Other larger amounts of rain included
95 at the Semin place West of Kilgore
3/4 inch of rain and quarter size hail at Crookston
1.46 rain and strong winds and hail NW of Parmalee at Heinerts
2.5 inches of rain 35 miles South of Nenzel with some hail
1.82 inches of rain at The Powderhorn Ranch with some hail
There were numerous other reports from 20 hundredths to a half inch of rain from the area.
As of 9AM Monday morning there were no reports of major damage closer to Valentine.
