The Cherry County Visitors Promotion board hosted an informational meeting last night to explain plans for a new 15,000 square foot convention center to be attached to the Mid Plains Community College Campus in Valentine. Also representatives from Mid Plains Community College were on hand to answer questions about their part in the new venture. Those two entities along with the Cherry County Commissioners have been in the planning stages for several months. Mike Steele, Vice President of Administrative Services at Mid Plains College was in attendance as the lead person for the college. The Cherry County Commissioners have approved $250,000 per year to go to the project from the lodging tax generated by hotels and motels in Cherry County. No property taxes will be obligated to the convention center.
