The Cherry County Ag Society met last evening for a regular meeting with
about 30 members of the public present. The regular funding from Cherry
County has been received and several sponsorships have come in to bolster
the Society’s financial situation.
Each board member was given the opportunity to express their thoughts on
the cohesiveness of the board and thoughts about moving forward to
accomplish some common goals. During the public comment time, a person
stated that they thought the board needed to inquire about hiring a
director to oversee operations, budget and marketing of the facilities.
Michele Garwood, 4H Extension Educator, gave a report on judges and
preliminary information for the 2025 county fair. Fair dates will run
August 1st through the 10th with the main run to be August 6th through the
10th.
Eve Millar reported on the new website with possibly offering online
booking for the use of facilities and a sponsorship recognition page. She
will proceed with updates.
A good part of the meeting was spent discussing the upcoming State High
School Rodeo Finals coming to Valentine June 12th through the 14th with
five rodeo performances. Association Secretary Jill Austin addressed the
board to discuss judges, rooms for contract personnel, cutting venue,
venders, gates and crowd management and a venue for the awards ceremony.
The Ag Society members will continue preparing the grounds, organizing
volunteers, and coordinating the other aspects of hosting the event.
