The City of Valentine held it’s regular monthly meeting on Thursday. The Corner Pub was approved it’s request to close 2nd street between Hall and Main on June 14, July 5, and August 9 from 10am to 2am.
Open Plains Transit was awarded $38k in funding over a 2 year period for continued service in the Heart City, and the Bull Market LLC was approved a liquor licence request by the council.
Also on the agenda, was the request to limit the discharge of fireworks. It was decided that fireworks could be discharged on the same days as sales of fireworks are permitted, from June 25 to July 4th as well as prior to New Years. Any other discharge of fireworks would require a permit from the city manager, with a limit of 4 permits per year.
The sidewalk project proposed for the south side of 5th street was tabled until next month. The council will also study the feasibility of moving the project to the north side of 5th street or possibly 3rd street.
The invoice to TriCity Sign company was approved to pay for the “City Hall” signage on the front of the city hall building.
The free dump day proposal was tabled to revisit at the next meeting, and the part time position of zoning/code enforcement officer was established with starting pay of $18 per hour.
The council went into executive session to discuss the hiring of a new city clerk as well as property line rectification on the golf course.
