Kim Epke and Rich Mercure from the Cherry County Visitors Promotion Board were our guests on the KVSH Comment Program to talk about the proposed new convention center in Valentine. The duo discussed the 15,000 square foot building and opportunities for the public to help support it.

The board has been working with Mid Plains Community College planners and visiting other area facilities to envision what best fits the needs of the Valentine community. The cost of the building would be around $4.5 million. Cherry County has pledged 1.5 million from the capital improvement portion of the lodging tax over the next 5 years. However they have been emphatic that no property tax dollars be spent on the project. Private pledges can be made over 2 year or 5 year time frames.

The public is encouraged to attend an open house, April 15th, to review the plans and discuss this community improvement project along with its benefits to the city and county. The open house will be 5 to 7PM at Mid Plains Community College Campus.
