The Cherry County Ag Society held a special emergency meeting on Wednesday
evening at the 4-H building at the Cherry County Fairgrounds.
The board discussed the upcoming state high school rodeo finals event that
is planned for this summer, as well as sponsorships.
The Nebraska High School Rodeo Association Finals will be held in
Valentine from June 12-14 with check-in on the 11th.
The ag board stated that time was of the essence as several upgrades and
updates will be needed per contract with the NEHSRA including restroom and
bathhouse facilities.
In order to satisfy a verbal agreement with the association several months
ago, it was decided to add water hookups along with electrical at several
of the spaces for traveling contestants. They will also need to do some
minor dirt-work. Improvements to the wi-fi on the grounds was approved as
well. The board requested that final plans be drawn-up and presented at
the next regular meeting to approve the construction of the new restrooms
and bathhouse facilities which were part of the agreement to bring the
NEHSRA finals back to Valentine. There was also some discussion about
using the old ShopKo building for the awards ceremony following the rodeo
events.
Before concluding the meeting, there was lengthy discussion concerning
updated rates for sponsors and creating an updated sponsors’ list.
