Members of the Heart City Theater Group were on the KVSH Comment Program Thursday morning to give listeners an update on theater project. Much of the demo work has been completed but there is still some work to accomplish. They are accepting inquiries from individuals who would like to volunteer to help with the remaining demo. The group has received a $100,000 technology grant from The Nebraska Arts Council through the Valentine Creative District designation. This will help with projector equipment, audio and video needs. The local Pestel Foundation recently awarded the group $80,000 as well. The Round-up program at Hendersons IGA also continue to raise funds.

The groups original goal for fund raising was $600,000. So far, they have raised a little under $500,000. The most recent fund-raising event was a raffle for a quarter of beef. Dan and Kim Epke donated the whole beef and there were four winners announced on the Comment program. The winners were Marty Hagge of Omaha, Deanna Peterson of Valentine, Sheila Nelson and Warren Rockwell of Valentine. Winners can contact the Valentine Locker.

The next phase of the project will include a meeting on March 24th from 6 to 8pm for contractors and the public, to discuss the layout and construction phase. At this time, the plan calls for about 75 seats, one screen and a small stage. It is hoped to be able to show the first movie in the new theater this fall.
