Valentine, NE, native and VHS Class of 2013 graduate, Kolton Brown, released his
first music EP (Extended Play), “Find A Girl”, on February 10, 2025. He started his
music career at the age of four, singing karaoke whenever and wherever he could. He
was involved in music throughout his schooling. His high school music teacher, Mrs.
Tammy Russell, was a great inspiration and supporter of his talents and helped shape
his love of music.
After high school, Brown attended Chadron State College, Chadron, NE, to major in
music. Upon completion of his freshman year, he joined the NE Army National Guard
unit in Chadron. After Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Ft.
Leonard Wood, MO, he returned to Chadron to continue his studies and perfect his
vocal and instrumental talents. Two years of guitar lessons during college helped
prepare him for his future music career. Along with several college buddies, Brown
started a band during his junior year called “Backroads”, playing at venues in
Chadron and Valentine.
During his senior year, the Chadron guard unit was transitioning from transportation
to becoming an MP unit. Wanting to further both his military and musical ambitions,
Brown auditioned for and was accepted into a military band unit based at Wheatland,
WY.
Moving to Colorado to be closer to the Wyoming guard unit, he worked as a music
teacher at a daycare/after school care center and gave private vocal and guitar
lessons.
“Inspiration for most of these songs came from my wife, Brittany,” Brown said. “The
inspiration for “Mama” came, of course, from my mom and childhood. When you listen
to this EP start to finish, it will take you through Brittany’s and my relationship
from when we met until we got married. I started writing the first song “What It’s
Like” in 2018 (when Brittany and I met) so this full project has been in progress
for seven years. I started recording at the end of 2021, so the recording process
took about 3.5 years.”
Brown is now an operations manager for an audio/visual company and currently resides
in Northglenn, CO, with his wife, Brittany; their two daughters, Addilyn and
Liliana, and dogs, Max and Layla.
“Find A Girl” can be purchased on iTunes or streamed on all major platforms.
