Firemen around north central Nebraska and south central South Dakota were kept busy with fires and flare ups over the last few days.

In addition to the fires near Long Pine and Norden on Monday, a fire south of St. Francis burned about 10 acres Tuesday afternoon.  According to fire chief Kenny Provencial, that fire was started by a pickup truck that caught fire, with flames spreading onto grassland.  Firemen were able to save two structures that were threatened by the fire.  Provencial thanks the Kilgore Fire Department for responding to the mutual aid request, and Valentine and Cody departments that were on stand-by.

Valentine firemen also responded to a mutual aid request by Mullen Fire Department to a wildfire reported south of Valentine on Hwy 97 on the Dismal River Ranch.  KVSH has reached out for more details and is awaiting further information on that fire.
