The Sandhills Area Foundation (SAF) has entered into a pass-through agreement with Cherry County Tourism to facilitate tax-deductible donations for the upcoming Cherry County Convention Center project.

This pass-through agreement allows donors to make tax-deductible contributions to the convention center project through the Sandhills Area Foundation, a recognized 501(c)(3) public charity. The collaboration aims to encourage community support and investment in this significant development for Cherry County.

Regina Osburn, Director of Cherry County Tourism, expressed her gratitude for this partnership:

“We’re grateful and excited to partner with SAF to make it easier for our community to contribute to this vital project,” said Regina Osburn, Cherry County Tourism Director. “This agreement will help us reach our fundraising goals more efficiently while offering tax benefits to our generous donors. This collaboration exemplifies the spirit of community partnership that makes Cherry County special.”

The proposed convention center, which has been in planning for several years, is expected to boost local tourism and provide a modern venue for events, conferences, and community gatherings. The facility will complement existing attractions in Valentine and Cherry County, enhancing the area’s appeal as a destination for visitors and businesses alike.

The agreement leverages SAF’s established reputation as a public charity dedicated to supporting area development and administering funds for the benefit of Cherry County residents. This partnership will facilitate easier donation processes for individuals and organizations interested in contributing to the convention center project.

Kim Marlatt, President of the Sandhills Area Foundation Board, added “The Sandhills Area Foundation is pleased to host this pass-through agreement with Cherry County Tourism.  Recently, the Foundation has served as a pass-through entity for the Heart City Theater Group and maintains its pass-through agreement with the Sparks Church to collect donations to refurbish that historical structure.  The main goals of these agreements are to allow our generous community donors the benefit of these contributions being tax-deductible, greater community involvement in project development and long-term stewardship of local resources.”

Donors interested in supporting the Cherry County Convention Center project can now make their contributions through the Sandhills Area Foundation. For more information on how to donate, please contact the Cherry County Tourism Board at 402-376-2969 or visit the Sandhills Area Foundation website or call Carolyn Moore at 402-322-0031.
