According to a joint statement from Cherry County Attorney Eric Scott and Cherry County Sheriff Rusty Osburn, “in recent response to public inquiry and recent reports of jurisdictions in Nebraska declining to enforce or aid in enforcing immigration laws, it is important to make clear the position of law enforcement in Cherry County.

Federal law creates duties and prohibits State and local law enforcement from failing to comply with lawful immigration directives and requests by federal officers.  Cherry County will follow the law.

The Offices of the Cherry County Sheriff and the Cherry County Attorney will cooperate to the full extent of the law with federal efforts to enforce immigration laws and affirmatively support the apprehension of criminal aliens.”
