At the Cherry County Courthouse Wednesday, Casey Miller of Valentine was honored for stepping up to help in a time of crisis. The American Heart Association and Cherry County Hospital identified Casey as a Heartsaver Hero. They recognized Casey for turning to help rather than holding back or watching. Presenting this award on behalf of the AHA and the Cherry County Hospital is staff member, Billie Wescott.
The key to Casey turning to help was based on knowledge and practice. Casey has been involved in training for emergency situations since he was young. Often times Casey and his 3 siblings “volunteered” to attend CPR and emergency trainings including practice scenarios held by their mom, former Chief of Police Dana Miller.
Dana commented that the best way to handle such circumstances is first- to prepare before you are ever faced with something like Casey came across. Attending classes teaches you how to do CPR and other life saving techniques. Taking the classes on a regular basis builds confidence to respond quickly and confidently. And if you happen to have health issues, wear a medical alert bracelet or necklace.
First Aid and CPR Classes are available at Mid-Plains Community College. You can also get more information by contacting the Cherry County Hospital.
Casey is a graduate of Valentine High School and is the son of Frank & Dana Miller of Valentine.
