Valentine’s Main Street was the backdrop for the 10th annual Heart of Christmas Celebration. Festivities started in the afternoon at Security First Bank with a visit with Santa Claus and his reindeer. The Berean Church Youth Group hosted a Candy Station with Christmas goodies.
The Valentine Vets Club was the social gathering place as community members waited for the parade to begin. The Vets Club served homemade Burritos and Enchiladas and had the Husker Football and Husker Volleyball games on the big screen for the fans. The Heart City Theater group served free popcorn and KVSH Radio served free hot cocoa at the new theater location on Main Street prior to the parade.
The Heart of Christmas Parade hosted 25 lighted Christmas Floats. In the Float Division, first place went to The Gingerbread Engine—Trinity River Ranch, and second place was a tie between Valentine Berean Church and Heart City Drug. In the Individual Division, first place went to Gudgel Land & Cattle, Rolling Stone Ranch & Sramek Border Collies, and second place went to Heart City Dance. Following the parade, everyone gathered back at the Vets Club for a visit with Santa Claus and cocoa and cookies provided by the Cherry County 4-H Families.
Judging of the three People’s Choice Christmas Trees and Ten Christmas Sweater Competitors was held in the Vets Club’s new building. People’s Choice Tree Winners were Valentine Vets Club taking first place and the Girl Scout Troup 268 took second place.
The Best Dressed Sweater Competition winners were as follows; 12 years and under first place was Evie King, second place was Kimber Burge. In the 13 years and up division first went to Ellen Moore, and second place to Jenny Moore. The Family division was a tough decision between the Girl Scout Troup 268 Leaders and the Girl Scout Bakers. It came down to a second round of judging to determine a first-place winner captured by the Troup 268 Leaders and the Bakers took second place.
