After extreme weather hit Florida a couple of weeks ago, a nationwide IV shortage affected healthcare facilities across the country.  Baxter labs is the maker of a majority of IV fluids in the country and had to shut down due to hurricane damage.

This affected Cherry County Hospital to the extent that all elective surgeries had to be suspended indefinitely.

According to a press release from Melissa Williams at Cherry County Hospital, “due to the conservation measures implemented at Cherry County Hospital, (CCH) will gradually begin resuming elective surgeries, (and) will consistently monitor our IV fluid usage and incoming supplies to ensure safe patient care for our community.”
