National hardware retailer True Value announced earlier this week that they have filed bankruptcy.  That story broke on KVSH radio via the Town Hall News Network, prompting questions to the local True Value store in Valentine.John Miller, owner of the business in downtown Valentine stated that he had several people come in asking about the future of the store that has been in business in Valentine in one form or another for decades.  John stated that locally, there should be little change, touting some freedom in buying power as an independent, locally owned store.  True Value stores are independently owned and are not a part of the Chapter 11 proceedings, with the exception of one Company-owned store in Palatine, IL, according to the True Value website.

The initial story stated that Do It Best, another national hardware retailer had expressed interest in the purchase of the True Value brand.  It is worth noting that ACE Hardware approached True Value with an offer of approximately $800 million to purchase the company in 2017.
