Several fire departments around the area sent trucks and manpower to fight a bale fire at the Dam Ranch off of Hwy 12 east of Valentine. Valentine Fire Chief Terry Engels states that Valentine Volunteer Fire Department, Mission and Springview all sent trucks to the fire that consumed 12-15 bales midday Thursday. It took firemen about 2 and a half hours on-scene to extinguish the blaze and finish some mop-up duties. Engels also stated that lightning from a fast moving cluster of thundershowers moving through the area that morning is the likely culprit in this fire.
