WINNER — Straight-line winds swept through south-central South Dakota late Monday night and caused significant damage and a power outage in Winner.

No injuries were reported as of Tuesday morning, according to local officials.

The National Weather Service says much of its data for the storm was lost due to the power outage. An 84 mph wind gust was recorded just a few miles west of Winner.

Winner’s drive-in movie theater screen sustained serious damage. Some roofs were dislodged from their homes. The Winner Armory gymnasium has roof damage and the Tripp County Museum also got hit hard.

In Jones County, the sheriff’s dispatch says a camper with motorcycles blew off I-90 near Murdo.

It was a similar story in Jackson County near Kadoka.  In that incident, one person was taken to the hospital, according to the Jackson County sheriff’s office.
