The Kilgore Fire Department responded to the report of an unoccupied pickup on fire outside of Kilgore on Monday evening at about 5pm Central Time.

The pickup was a total loss, but quick response from the firemen and individuals on scene kept the spread of the fire to a minimum.  The fire was likely caused by needle grass in the trucks exhaust.

Kilgore Fire Chief Todd Rothleutner asks area listeners to please check and clean your vehicles’ exhaust regularly especially if you will be driving through tall grassy areas to help prevent grass fires in the late summer and early autumn months.
