On 07/15/2024 at 4:19 am, officers with the Valentine Police Department and Cherry
County Sheriff’s Office were requested to respond to the 100 block of north Thatcher
Street for a burglary in progress. Officers were advised that shots had been fired
by the victim during this incident. Evidence on scene indicated that an injury had
occurred to the suspect. The suspect, who has been identified, fled prior to the officer’s arrival. A
witness told officers that the suspect’s injury was a laceration to the hand and not
a gunshot wound. This investigation is ongoing. According to Chief Miller, there are no current threats to
the public at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
