According to Sheriff Michael J. Rath, Emergency Manager at about 7:30 MT, an approximate EF-2 tornado was tracked and observed going through the Grant County Village of Whitman, NE. The Village sustained minor structural damage to homes, trees and vehicles. Approximately 1/2 mile south of Whitman 2 homes were completely destroyed and one person reported injured. 2 of three communications towers at Whitman were totally destroyed. there was no power in Whitman and lines are being assessed. A better assessment will be made during daylight hours. Rath stated that No outside assistance is needed at this time. Other than emergency personnel or residents, it is requested that people stay clear of the area.
