Plans are being made for a family community celebration that has been going on since 1887 in Sparks Nebraska. Last evening a small group of dedicated individuals met to begin planning for this year’s Old Settlers Reunion on August 31st. Many of the events that have been going on for over 100 years will continue including foot races, amateur rodeo events for youth and adults, a special program, horseshoe tournament and food. The event began as a community picnic in late summer to gather with friends and family. Over the years the rodeo began and at one time there was even a baseball game and dance. Families have created traditions that have been passed on from generation to generation while attending Old Settlers. If you would be interested in getting involved in the Old Settlers Reunion contact Amanda Jones, Gerry Grooms, Lyndee Elliott or Mike Burge.
