Valentine Community School students participate in the Collaborative Nebraska Map project to commemorate the Fall 2024 reopening of Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney. School students were asked to represent their county by designing a unique map of Nebraska.
Several Valentine high school art classes brainstormed the unique aspects of Cherry County. The ideas were categorized into three areas, nature, recreation/culture, and agriculture. Then three students; Jenalee Garwood, Talia Wenig, and Praise Maunu drew up the design and finalized the creation.
Muesem of Nebraska Art reached out to 93 schools in the state to make this project come to life. Once all the custom fit pieces are ready, MONA will put them together to form a one-of-a-kind map of Nebraska. This map will be displayed in the museum. Garwood, Wenig, and Maunu will be able to now say they have art in the Museum of Nebraska Art.
