Cherry County Emergency Management Director Jessica Coyle appeared on the KVSH Comment program this morning to discuss the current burn ban in Cherry County. Director Coyle stated that Cherry County follows the state of Nebraska Statewide Open Burning Ban statutes. This can be waived by obtaining a permit from your local fire chief. Residents can use a burn barrel, but no open burning allowed without a permit. Anyone found in violation of this state statute could be held liable for damages caused by spread of fire. The City of Valentine and villages in Cherry County may have additional regulations that need to be adhered to.
Organizations which control camping at state parks, can also implement restrictions. Fire Chiefs urge landowners to keep stock tanks full to help with water supply should the need arise. For more information about the burn ban, contact Jessica Coyle at 402 376 2420 or 376 4105.
