A group of Northeast to North Central Nebraska residents are organizing a revitalization of the NEBRASKA OUTLAW TRAIL SCENIC BYWAY 12. The mission of the Outlaw Trail Scenic Byway is to promote and share the diverse and unique culture, history, and landscape thereby enhancing the economic prosperity of our communities. The Outlaw Trail Scenic Byway is a 231-mile scenic route of hills, valleys, and jagged cliffs that follows Nebraska Highway 12 from South Sioux City to Valentine. The highway largely lies within 10 miles of the South Dakota border its entire length. The byway retraces much of the path where outlaws such as Doc Middleton, Kid Wade and their associates used to hideout. The byway meanders alongside the Niobrara and Missouri Rivers where steep bluffs and tree-shrouded slopes give way to lush, rolling green hills.
